I don't really know how to start this off, but "thanks" is honestly the least I can say. I read your entire article titled "How anesthesia circle breathing systems work" twice. Once in July earlier this year, and again in December, since I was preparing for some veterinary board exams. And because the idea of inhalation anesthesia was always interesting and equally annoying, especially since I live in a country where such a machine is a bit too niche for veterinary patients. I only saw the machine once back in vet school, and it was never taught in any meaningful way. I got enrolled with the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and have to pass some exams. I read your entire article titled "How anesthesia circle breathing systems work" twice. Once in July earlier this year, and again in December, since I was preparing for some veterinary board exams. There was one question where I had to point a cursor at a specific item on a photo of an anesthesia machine. Drumroll. It was the adjustable pressure-limiting valve. The question basically said the pressure in the bag was building up and about to explode, so I had to point to the thing we should adjust.
I’ve never seen a machine in real life except that one time back in vet school, so there I was, staring at an HD picture from a vet hospital, and I had to identify it. And I did. I guessed it based on the circuit system I had in mind, and it matched the descriptions perfectly. I checked again after the exam using Google Images, and I became pretty confident I chose the right thing.
Big thanks once again for your awesome notes and illustrations. I was really hopeful to find any topic about radiography and its physics, but couldn’t find anything as enjoyable as your content, so please consider making one.... Collapse
The reason I came here to read this is that while watching Apollo13 I found that a key step is missing, and it is missing from your article as well. They created a square filter holder that now is connected to a hose. How does the hose fit into the “round hole” of the lem Air scrubber? Im sure its obvious to some, but I dont know, was the lem air return path constructed with a convenient hose connector?

I really love your entries on anaesthesia! Maybe you could write more on the history of how it was discovered, the differences in the types, including IV, inhalational, or rapid sequence induction for children, adults, or surgery type including emergency procedures? How about topics on how anaesthesia workstations/relative analgesia machines are set up? And for those interested in EMS/paramedics, artificial respiration devices, tracheotomy/tracheostomy, and so on. The MRI and ultrasound imaging topics are good. I'd like to see more on nuclear imaging and cancer radiation equipment, as well. Some topics on neurohacking involving TMS/ECT would be nice, as well. Also a topic on infusion pumps would be great. This might seem like a lot, but after all, I think having a web site dedicated to how all kinds of medical equipment works would be amazing for those who make it a special interest.

Great website, I’ve learned so much! Would it be possible for you to do the same for the art line, pacemakers, vaporiser, thermometer, etc.? And one constructive feedback — in the breathing system section, could you add another slide that says something like: “Now everyone is happy, but the environment isn’t.” You could mention that the scavenging system.
